Smallmouth one day, Walleye the next

Went from fishing in upstate New York on beautiful Lake George for smallmouth bass and lake trout to northern Michigan fishing for walleye.  I had made a commitment to take a couple out for two trips back to back and I wanted to make good on my word.

We pulled up on our first spot, I set the depth on slip bobbers rigged with leeches and my clients pitched them out.  Within 5 minutes, we landed a 19"er and a 17"er - beautiful walleyes (lost at least one pig)!  We moved around for the next 4 hours catching fish after fish for a total of 8 legal walleyes.  We caught smallies, rock bass, perch, and a bunch of short walleyes as well.  What made the fishing so special is that we had bright sunshine and flat calm water - conditions that usually make for a really tough bite.

Love the leech bite from the middle of August until really the end of august on Leelanau.  I caught some fish on a jig and on a crank, but it's hard to pass up watching a slip bobber slowly slide beneath the water.  Water temps were around 72 degrees and we fished water as shallow as 6' and as deep as 12'.
