Don't Fall for Sky High Lithium Battery Prices!

When I rigged my new boat in 2022, I decided to go with Lithiums instead of AGM’s. But I didn’t want to pay the 699-799 or more per battery. So I went on Amazon and ordered batteries that were $300. I took a gamble. What if these batteries didn’t hold up? What would happen if I had a string of guide trips in a week, but my batteries weren’t holding up and I wouldn’t be able to use my Garmin Force the way I needed to?

Fast forward to my third season with these batteries: zero issues so far. But wait - it gets even better. The other day I went on Amazon to look at the same battery to see where the prices are at in 2024. I was considering upgrading my trolling motor battery on my kayak from an AGM to a Lithium. And what I found blew my mind….wait for it…wait for it…

I could buy that same 100ah 12v Deep Cycle Lithium Ion battery on Amazon for $158 US dollars. It just showed up today and I’m charging it up and getting ready to use it on my Hobie. I figured that I would spend far more than $158 in Chiropractor bills if my back goes out of alignment related to lifting that old beast up into my kayak. So now instead of 65+ pounds of trolling motor battery, I now have 24 lbs!

The name of the battery is called Jita. You can look at the battery by clicking here. My understanding from talking to the owner of one of the US distributors is that most of these batteries come from the same places in China and get labeled and priced based on whatever companies want to charge. Do the research for yourself. So far I’m happy with my purchase.
