Early to Mid June: Prime Time for Big Post Spawn Smallmouth on Lake George

Giants like this one haven’t been pressured in early to mid June!

June can be one of my favorite months to catch giant smallies on Lake George. Typically, by the first part of June the spawn is done. The males are left guarding the nest and the big females move off and recover. You can often catch fish both shallow and deep this time of year and that is what can make this such a fun time to fish.

I’ve done well with top water and jerkbaits deeper as well as light hair jigs and tubes and all kinds of other plastics up shallow.

The other amazing detail about fishing early in the year is that you don’t really have that much pressure on the lake in June.

If you’re interested in learning how to fish a bunch of different techniques, with the shot at a big fish….shoot me a text and set up a guide trip. One of my favorite times of year can soon become one of your favorite times of year as well!

These fish are precious to Lake George - release anything over 14” please.
