What does it take to jig up Lakers on Lake George?
Fish are fish. Lakers are predators - treat
For many, the giants of Lake George remain elusive. Lake George is full of lake trout and yet many anglers struggle to successfully target this pelagic monster. Here’s what I’ve learned over the last 10 years honing my lake trout skills: fish are fish. Here are the keys to success:
Successful Lake Trout Hunting
Location is huge. Find the fish and you’re that much closer to catching them. What are the key depths for finding these fish?
Match the forage base. Lake trout tend to fixate on smelt (and perch). With that being the case, fish smelt patterns. The smelt on Lake George are small - 3-4”. Use a 3-4” plastic.
Make ‘em bite. Lakers are predators. If you can’t get them with a simple jigging cadence, make them chase your bait up off the bottom.
Run and gun. If you’re not catching fish, move. Don’t sit on a spot too long. If the fish are there, often they will bite right away.
Hire a guide. The learning curve can be steep on these fish. You can shorten the learning curve by hiring me to show you what I do.
This year we are finding and catching more fish than ever. The size of the fish has been very impressive as well. Text me to set up a trip for yourself this week (517-488-3224)!
