Top Water Bite Heats Up on Lake George
It seems like this is the time of year where I do best on top water on Lake George. Water temps are somewhere between 65-68 degrees. The post spawn funk seems to be gone and the fish are looking up.
Lots of dinks chasing bait on the surface, but bigger fish aren't too far away. I'm targeting edges and the tops of mid lake humps that come up to about 15 fow. I went 2 for 4 on nicer fish last night in about a half hour. Caught all the 10" fish you would want to catch. I like to use a Rapala Xprop because I can fish it fast and it seems to work even if there's a little chop.
Water is so clear that I can see the fish staging to pounce, which is the coolest experience. Even with the visual cue, I still missed a toad last night. I try and approach top water the same way I fish other presentations. If I'm not catching fish, I move until I find them. Shoreline points and island points can be good spots to try as well.
Good luck and let me know how you do!
