Christmas list ideas for the angler in your life

Trust me - there’s a lot of things that the fisherman in your life doesn’t want for Christmas. If he’s anything like me, he would be blown away if his grandma, his mom, or his wife actually got him a gift that would make him more successful as an angler. However, as soon as you begin to explore options - you become overwhelmed with the shear number of choices on the market. I’m going to give you a handful of options that will blow the guy you’re buying for away by your thoughtfulness.

  1. $$$ - Guided Fishing Experience. Get him a gift certificate for a guide trip. Nothing replaces time on the water with an expert. Buying a guide trip is like buying him an education in fishing experience and success. There’s tons of baits and lures and tackle out there - but knowing how, when, where to use them is more important than just owning a bunch of stuff. Most guide trips range around $350 for a half day to $550 for a full day. You could think ahead to a vacation you are planning, jump on the internet, and find some excellent options. Check out www.freshwatertherapy.com as an option!

  2. $$ - Outdoors clothing. Every outdoorsman loves quality clothing. We live outside and often the weather doesn’t cooperate with our schedule - so we go anyway. When looking for good outdoor clothing, I have personally been very impressed with Simms and Patagonia. These companies produce gear that looks good, fits right, and comes with really solid customer service and guarantees. It’s a bit pricey, but the old adage that you get what you pay for is usually true! Simms sells a line of outerwear called Challenger - comes in both insulated and non insulated for all year versatility. I personally like Patagonia’s Quandary pants (love the fact that they have a long option for pant length). Check out www.simmsfishing.com or www.patagonia.com for some sweet options.

  3. $ - $$$ - Gift Cards. You can never go wrong with a gift card! And if you wait for the right sale, you can often get gift cards at discounted rates. Tackle Warehouse and FishUSA both run deals on gift cards. TW discounts are during their 12 days of Christmas sale. FishUSA has options throughout November and December.

Christmas is the season where it really is better to give than to receive! And this year, give a gift that will really bless the fisherman in your world. Feel free to leave a comment if I can be of any further assistance to you!
