How to find and catch bigger bass during the post spawn on Lake George
Right now, it’s super easy to find smaller male smallmouth up shallow. But if you want to catch a four pounder, you will have to look somewhere other than the shallows. After the females lay the eggs, they head out somewhere to recover while the males guard the nest. Here are my top locations to look to find bigger fish:
Search around windblown sections of islands on Lake George. I like to throw jerkbaits into wind blown areas. Yesterday, on the first cast fishing the point of an island, we caught a four pounder.
Fish near shore humps and primary shoreline points. We have been catching really quality fish on both deep diving jerkbaits and Rapala DT-10’s.
Search suspended fish on off shore humps. I like to make a series of casts with a jerkbait or a crankbait on off shore humps. As the water temps continue to rise throughout the summer, the whopper plopper begins to shine.
By searching out these areas, you will eliminate catching numbers of smaller fish and increase the odds of catching a Lake George monster. Many of our biggest smallmouth come during this season scattered all over the place. This past week was no exception - we only landed 15 smallmouth in a recent trip, but we hooked 4 giants that hovered at around 4 pounds. We plan to write and produce videos to help you become more successful on Lake George - our only request back to you is that you release these big fish so that they become true trophies!
