Best. Fishing. Lake George. Ever.

The bite is extremely strong right now. I’m trying to figure out why it’s so good. Water temps are around 67 degrees. I’m catching fish on the bottom, suspended, and on top.

Here are my top baits:

  1. Hair jig. Extremely amazing bait on Lake George. I use a 1/4 oz. and move it very slowly along the bottom. Lots of fish and lots of big fish. Also caught a couple of bonus lake trout as well this past week.

  2. Whopper Plopper (90). I like colors that are more natural. Trying to imitate cisco or smelt.

  3. Prop baits. I like the Rapala Prop bait and I also like the Yo Zuri 3DB prop bait. Both have been incredibly successful.

  4. Suspending Jerk baits. These are awesome right now as well. I like the shadow rap deeps in more natural minnow patterns and the Strike King KVD suspending deep diving jerkbaits.

I think a lot of credit to this fishery being so strong is the way the DEC protects the spawn with CPR happening until the 3rd weekend in June. I can’t emphasize this enough: if you want to keep some to eat, keep a 12”er and let the 18"+ go. We catch and release almost all fish. Every once in a while a client will request to keep fish and that’s when we keep 12-14” fish and rock bass. Both provide a great meal without hurting the population at all.
