One day Adirondack Smallies, the next Northern MI Walleye

Went from pounding 2-4 pound smallmouth to trying to figure out the bite for walleyes in northern Michigan. We had two beautiful days (almost too beautiful if you ask me). Our biggest challenge was that we didn’t have enough wind. I have become a huge fan of wind over the last several years. Wind generates a bite: it cloaks us by breaking up the surface light and it discombobulates bait getting predators amped up to feed.

Anyway, we set out to catch them on slip bobbers and leeches - one of my favorite ways to catch them in August. Fought hard to produce fish - that is until the wind started to blow - and then the fish bit. Overall, we did well on the leeches and on cranks fished aggressively. Caught everything - smallies, walleyes, perch, rockies, pike - and the best part is that we had some brand new fisherladies who got to experience how much fun fishing is!

Water temps were between 72 and 75 degrees. Can’t wait to get up there an do it again!
