Why I Bought Another Skeeter SX 2250 To Fish Freshwater!

When I told my fishing buddies, i was buying a bay boat to fish inland lakes in Michigan and New York, they gave me a hard time. Why not get a walleye style boat, like Skeeter’s Deep V WX 2200? My biggest challenge as a guide comes down to how many I’m legally allowed to have on my boat - especially in the state of NY.

New York has this rule where they take the capacity number the manufacturer sets and tweaks it so that it’s actually smaller than what the boat company says you can have on the boat (their argument is that the average person is much heavier than they used to be - hard to argue with their logic).

So anyway, in 2019, I bought my first SX 2250. And I absolutely loved it! It worked amazing to cast for walleyes on inland lakes. I snuck that boat onto 500-800 acre bodies of water - fished in skinny water (it’s a bay boat and drafts in 12”). We caught monster gills, crappies, perch, walleyes, smallies, pike - all out of inland bodies where I was the only center console as far as the eye could see.

Then we took it on Grand Traverse Bay for lakers and ciscos with stellar results. The thing handled big water beautifully - no surprise there. Then we took it to NY and fished beautiful Lake George. I was able to have 5 clients on the boat in NY which was my goal - the 22’6” boat fished 5 or 6 perfectly. The one thing we haven’t done yet is take it down to saltwater…

The past October I sold my 2019 and ordered a 2022 from my friends at Lake Drive Marine in Coldwater, MI. Jeff and John and Mike and the entire staff are a dream to work with. They do honest, excellent work. I love having a dealer and service center that leaves me with complete peace of mind and confidence. And what did I order? You got it, another Skeeter SX 2250. This one will have a different hull color, I’m doing Raptors instead of Talons, 2 Garmin Livescope (bow and stern), 4 graphs, with the same Force trolling motor up front.

I just talked with my dealer and to my surprise - the boat is set to be built in early January with a early February ship date! I am stoked.

Want to give you my top reasons for buying another Skeeter SX 2250:

  1. Skeeter is an incredible company to work with. Had one minor issue with last boat and Skeeter covered it - no questions asked.

  2. Incredible design and fishability. As already mentioned, fishes several people really well. I can fit every box I own in the back two compartments.

  3. The Yamaha outboard is a dream to run. Zero issues. Sold my last boat with just over 350 hours. Ran like it was brand new.

  4. Amazing family boat. I boat the family package which adds on a small swim platform with ladder (a huge hit), deck cushions for the entire bow (with back rests), and another padded seating area behind the console. We added a turboswing ski/tube tow bar. Everyone has a cushioned seat - everyone is happy!

  5. Lake Drive Marine - incredible dealer and service center. Wouldn’t want to work with any other organization!

More to come in when my boat arrives! I’m pumped!!!
