Don't skimp on the business end: the importance of high quality jigs for success

I met Carl Meinke at a sports show several years back and after building a friendship we collaborated on a walleye jig that met a need in my guide business. I couldn’t find a jig with a super high quality hook (most jig producers maximize profit by buying cheap hooks), a wide gap, and a really good paint job. And Carl ended my search.

Our walleye jig encapsulates everything I want in a jig: 3/0 mustad hook with a wide gap, high quality lead, powder coated, and every eye is cleaned out and ready to go. We have caught so many fish on this jigs and experienced so much success that we expanded the jigs to include Detroit River heavier walleye jigs and light slip bobber jigs for leeches.

Carl produces all kinds of other other products: he has a whole line of bass skirted jigs, bladed jigs, terminal tackle, etc. (you can check it all out at www.oldfartlures.com). I am thrilled to be partnered with him and look forward to many more years of working together. Here are my favorite colors and sizes: green pumpkin, bluegill, citrus shad…and I would buy 1/8, 3/16, and 1/4 oz options. In the slip bobber/leech application I would buy 1/32oz and go with citrus shad.
